George Fox 400: The Fire and the Hammer

November 24 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This is a cantata which tells the story of the early life of George Fox and the beginnings of Quakerism. Originally written by Tony Biggin and Alec Davison for the Leaveners Quaker Youth Theatre, we thought it would be a good way to celebrate George Fox’s 400th birthday. It is written for four-part chorus, tenor solo, narrator and piano.

Following a number of sessions in the early summer we now invite any other Friends who would like to join us; it’s not too late! There will be six fortnightly rehearsals followed by a final rehearsal and performance. Scores (£10 + P&P) and MP3 rehearsal tracks are available.

Rehearsals are at 7pm (till 8.30) at Central Manchester Meeting as follows:
Thursday 12 September
Wednesday 25 September
Tuesday 8 October
Thursday 24 October
Thursday 7 November
Wednesday 20 November

Final rehearsal: Saturday 23 November, 10.30 – 4.00
Performance: Sunday 24 November, 2.30pm

Valerie Clark (Manchester & Warrington AM), Peter Eccles (East Cheshire AM),
John Sheldon (Pendle Hill AM)
