Scorched Earth, Green Shoots

October 27 - November 1

Free

Scorched Earth and Green Shoots is an exhibition of contemporary works by two local artists living in North London. Terry McGinity works in stone and wood creating sculptures of great stillness. Kate Bailey paints in oil, acrylic, and egg tempera producing both realistic and abstract compositions.

Together through sculptures and paintings they lay open their responses to what they see happening in different parts of the world today. They respond to the destruction initiated by humans, and to the devastation from natural forces made worse by human choices. Yet it is not a pessimistic exhibition: there is balance in their lyrical observations and depictions of the persistence of hope and beauty found in individuals, society, and the natural world.

Scorched Earth and Green Shoots reflects the Quaker commitment to peace and climate justice.

You are invited to explore and share your responses to the exhibition. It will be held at Golders Green Quaker Meeting House, 17 North Square, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London NW11 7AD. The Meeting House, built in 1913, is an oasis of calm surrounded by nature and bordering ancient woodland.

From Monday 27th October 2025 until Saturday 1st November, the exhibition is open weekdays 11am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm. There is an opportunity to meet the artists on Thursday 30th October from 6pm to 8pm.

Entry is free and all are welcome.
