Foundation Stones to remember Holocaust victims: Online Worship-sharing event
May 12, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
ONLINE WORSHIP-SHARING EVENT
Free but advance registration required.
April 2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. You are invited to paint a stone in remembrance of the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust and all other victims of Nazi persecution. You can also choose to dedicate your stone to those murdered in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. These stones will then become part of the new UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in London if you send them in, once the lockdown has lifted. Each painted stone is a commitment to remember the past and to build a future free from all forms of prejudice, discrimination and hatred.
Details of this project are at https://www.big-ideas.org/current-projects/foundation-stones/ .
The 17th April edition of Quake! has links to information about how Quakers were involved with holocaust victims and have been remembering these events, including an online poetry lesson.
The Quaker Arts Network and Big Ideas (who run the Foundation Stones project) invite Friends to an online worship-sharing event using Zoom, on Tuesday 12th May, at 5pm, where you will be invited to show your painted stone and share a few words about it, all in a spirit of worship. We hope may Friends of all ages will join us.
If you would like to take part please fill in this online form or email FoundationStones@big-ideas.org . They will send you a link to the Zoom meeting nearer the time. NB IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVE
RYONE REGISTERS IN ADVANCE OR THEY MAY NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE MEETING.
