Festival of Biblical Literature
Uncategorized 0 CommentsBetween Thursday 4th and Saturday 6th July 2024, James Priestman (member of Ealing Meeting) will be directing an inaugural Festival of Biblical Literature at the Quaker Meeting House in Malvern, Worcestershire. The festival will be a study and celebration of the Bible in literature (for example, there will be a seminar on the use of the story of Job in literature from Charles Dickens to Muriel Spark) and of the Bible as literature (for example, there will be a lecture on the literary techniques used in the story of David and Bathsheba). As well as the seminars, there will be music and poetry. This is a festival for theist and nontheist, the religiously certain, the religiously unsure and those who are not religious at all. You can buy a ticket for just one day or for the whole festival. For more information, including the programme and tickets and to sign up for a newsletter, please go to https://www.festivalofbiblicalliterature.co.uk/
The festival will run from 10 am to 4 pm, to make it easy for people to travel to and from the festival site on the day. You may wish to stay overnight in Malvern – it is a beautiful town set in outstanding country-side. You will need to arrange accommodation for yourself. Malvern is a popular place in the summer – so book early! There is plenty of theatre and other entertainment in the town in the evenings, and in nearby Ledbury, there is a Poetry Festival taking place.
